At Amazing Gardens we get involved with projects of all sizes. Some are very large but others are much smaller. Here are som examples of smaller projects.
Shadey Planting Plan

Our client wanted a planting scheme for a shadey area. The borders were raised using oak sleepers. The scheme includes formal box balls to define the space, ferns, crocosmia and astrantia for colour . Honeysuckle and a climbing hydrangea provide scent and hide the fence respectively. The main shrub is a Philadelphus 'Aurea' to provide scented flowers, interest in Spring and to act as a backdrop for the deep reds of the astrantia.

Side Border

The side border is designed to give a colourful and attractive view from the entrance to the garden. Crocosmia and box provide unity between the borders. The yellow leaves of the Choisya Ternata 'Sundance' link to the yellow leaf of the Philadelphus.

This is a small but very well defined garden. The planting scheme provides all year interest, scent and colour - all within a shadey spot!

PathThe addition of a new conservatory wrecked the garden and made access difficult. We redesigned and built a new meandering path re-using the existing slabs and provided privacy by erecting decorative panels and to ceate a contempoary feel. There is now a lovely climber growing up the conservatory wall - softening the whole entrance.

Gravel & grasses

Our Client had a small over-grown, difficult bed to manage. It had to support the ever growing number of wheelie bins and had to be NO MAINTENANCE. We installed a gravel garden complete with grasses. Simple but very effective. The gravel ties the area into the surrounding gardens and the plants provide a welcome entrance to the back garden.

Restored Water Feature & pond

A few years ago our client had her garden designed and built by another landscaping company. The design included a cascading water feature. The pond was leaking, the cascade was leaking and the company would not come out to fix it. She feared that the whole feature would have to be rebuilt. She contacted Amazing Gardens and we restored her water feature. At our client's request we deepened the pond. We also repointed the cascade. The leak was due to an eroded supply pipe but because the original landscapers had buried the pipe under the cascade we could not get to it and therefore we had to install a brand new supply pipe.  Our client was delighted to have it fixed and once again they have the sound of running water in the garden.

This once beautiful garden had sadly fallen from grace. The garden was predominantly used to house kennels for our clients' dogs. After a slight re-design by Amazing Gardens to add a more useful lawn and a new planting scheme, the space is now once again a beautiful and modern place to enjoy. The patio was fixed and extended, the kennels removed and a new lawn laid.

Restored Garden

A whole new planting scheme was developed and planted. The rubble - and there was a lot of rubble - was removed. The walls were fixed and a new bench seat created. One of the outdoor rooms was redefined and is now a quiet area where our client can sit and enjoy the smell of fragrant plants. Gravel was used to break up the slabs in this area and to link to the lawn area.

This is a wonderful restoration and our client is delighted with the transformation.

Here are a few photos of the new planting scheme. The existing shrubs were re-used where ever possible.

Gravel Garden

Our client wanted a stylish minimum maintenance front garden. We created a gravel garden using box to define the space, grasses to add movement and alliums and Spring bulbs to add colour and seasonal interest. The lollipop photinia will provide height and a splash of colour to complement the reddish seed heads of the grasses.

Gravel Garden

The outer garden was completely overgrown. We cleared it and then redefined it using oak sleepers. The gravel garden theme was continued with phormiums that will eventually float amongst a sea of lavandula. Bulbs provide a welcoming note in the Spring.

Indian Stone Patio

We also created a large, raised oak sleeper patio infilled with Raj Green Indian stone in the back garden for entertaining. In the Spring we cut back the holly hedges and tidied to borders to create a very low maintenance, yet interesting space.

Sleeper Pond

This formal pond was created out of sleepers and the border planted with plants that tie back into the rest of the garden. A fountain and UV filter have been added help keep the water clear. The black liner reflects the clouds as they float past and the soothing sound of water is ideal next to the existing patio.

Pond Planting

The pond has been planted with flag iris, no invasive reeds, oxygenators and a small water lilly.

Olive Tree in a raised bed

We also extended a bed in the patio to house a beautiful mature olive tree. The raised bed was created in the same style as the existing raised beds in the garden with bespoke capping stones.
